Wali Songo have been succeeded in the transformation of Javanese religion and culture. Scattered along Java’s north coast, covering 7 cities (Surabaya, Gresik, Tuban, Demak, Lamongan, Kudus, Cirebon) in 3 provinces (East Java, Central Java, West Java), we will found the trace of the Java island's first Muslim missionaries (Wali Songo/Nine Saints of Islam).
Day one: SURABAYA
1. Arriving in Surabaya airport, visiting the tomb of Sunan AMPEL, the son of Syech MAULANA MALIK IBRAHIM, born in Champa in 1401 CE. As the spiritual force behind the founding of Java's first Islamic kingdom in Demak. Died in 1481 CE and was buried in Surabaya, East Java
Day two: GERSIK, LAMONGAN, TUBAN
2. Going to Gresik for visiting the tomb of Syech MAULANA MALIK IBRAHIM, either came from Persia, Turkey, or Northern India. Arrived on Java 1404 CE, as one of Indonesia's pioneers in the spreading of the Islamic faith in East Java. Active in commerce, healing, and improvement of agricultural techniques. Died in 822 H (1419 CE) and was buried in Gresik, East Java
3. Visiting the tomb of Sunan GIRI, nephew of Syech MAULANA MALIK IBRAHIM, born in Banyuwangi, East Java in 1442 CE. The popular children's toys and games such as Jelungan, Jamuran, Ilir-ilir and Cublak Suweng is attributed to him. His name is also associated with Gending Asmaradana and Pucung (Javanese poetry). Buried in Gresik, East Java
4. Going to Lamongan for visiting the tomb of Sunan DRAJAT, the son of Sunan AMPEL, born in 1470 CE. Composed songs for gamelan orchestra, the Gending Pangkur, a special melody for the traditional Javanese gamelan orchestra and converted to the local populace. Buried in Lamongan, East Java
5. Going to Tuban for visiting the tomb of Sunan BONANG, the son of Sunan AMPEL, born in Rembang, Central Java in 1465 CE. Assisted in constructing and believed as the first Imam of the Great Mosque in Demak. Died in 1525 CE and was buried in Tuban, East Java
Day three: KUDUS, DEMAK
6. Going to Kudus for visiting the tomb of Sunan KUDUS, the grand child of Sunan AMPEL, possible originator of wayang golek puppetry. The great learning man, as well as a poet and philosopher. Died 1550 CE, was buried in Kudus, Central Java.
7. Visiting the tomb of Sunan MURIA, the son of Sunan KALIJAGA, adapted and used many elements of traditional Javanese culture, like the gamelan orchestra, in the course of teaching. Buried in Kudus, Central Java
8. Going to Demak for visiting the tomb of Sunan KALIJAGA, used wayang kulit shadow puppets and gamelan music to convey spiritual teachings. Created the famous orchestra Gamelan Sekaten for use in the Mosque of Demak. Built Masjid Agung Cirebon and Masjid Agung Demak. Buried in Demak, Central Java
Day four: CIREBON
9. Going to Cirebon for visiting the tomb of Sunan GUNUNG JATI, born in AD 1448, having other name as Syarif Hidayatullah, the brilliant military commander. Succeeded in subjugating the North West coast of Java as well as the State of Banten. Settled in Cirebon for living and teaching, after successfully blocking the Portugese in Sunda Kelapa (Jakarta) in 1527. Died in A.D. 1570 and was buried in Cirebon, West Java
Day five: JAKARTA
Going to Jakarta, and transfer to Airport
